Julella macrospora

Hosts: algae-covered, weakened moss being overgrown by Collema sp.; generally known from the lower parts of algae-covered mosses. It is possibly algicolous or lichenised.

Apical part of peridium showing greyish brown colour, cellular texture and ostiolar periphyses. From a single perithecium on a dead moss overgrown by Collema sp. Inadvertently collected with Peltigera infected by lichenicolous fungi. Martin’s Wood, VC10, England, Oct 2023.
Ascospores in 2-spored asci. Spores colourless, large, muriform, guttulate, darkening only slightly with age.
