Epibryon hypophyllum

Hosts: Radula complanata (and Preissia quadrata).

Epibryon hypophyllum is known from Irish material collected by Hannes Hertel and analysed by Peter Döbbeler. The Hertel collections constitute many important first bryophilous ascomycete records for the British Isles.

The material photographed below was observed in Tyrol in Austria.

Austrian material seen in Sept 2022. Top left – infected Radula complanata. Top right – cells of the peridium. Bottom left – asci and ascospores in water. Bottom right – intracellular hyphae in host leaf cells. Bar = 20 micrometres.
